Back Care Awareness Week
This years Back Care Awareness week is now under way (7th to 11th October 2013) and is themed “Caring for Carers.”
In the UK there are currently around 7 million unpaid carers who provide valuable assistance and support to friends, family and neighbours. Carers are often exposed to higher than usual levels of physical and emotional stress which can put their own health at risk. Many carers help the person they care for with physical tasks, such as getting in and out of the bed, bath or chairs. In addition to this, the role of carer, especially when caring for a spouse or close family member, can create unique emotional stresses. Consequently over 70% of the UK’s unpaid carers currently suffer from back pain and are also at a greater risk of developing chronic pain, which is disabling in a third of cases and life-long for the majority.
If you are unfortunate enough to suffer from back pain there are a number of things you can do to help alleviate the effects and also to help try and limit any future recurrences. The first is to make sure that you are always seated correctly because if you have not already heard, sitting is the new smoking. Spending long periods of time sitting in a bad position is one of the worst possible things you can do to your body. For more about sitting safely you can read the article “Sitting Safely – The Spinal Considerations” by Dr Henry Stansford, MA, MB. B Chir (Cantab). D.Phys Med (Lond). who was partly responsible for the original design of posture products such as the 66fit Back Curve.
Another thing you can do to help your back pain is to use a self massage tool such as the Back Nodger and during Back Care Awareness Week we are offering you an extra special discount of £5 on this fantastic product. Anyone who’s ever had those aching knots or niggles in tense shoulders, a stiff neck or suffered from a bad back, will welcome a good Nodging.
For more information on either of these products please see our website or contact us via telephone, email, or through our Social Media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. You can also join in the conversations in our LinkedIn Group for professionals.
